Umidigi Z2 Twilight Review: Best Notch Phone under $250

Umidigi has just launched the Z2 Twilight, the top of the shelf Z2 variant. The phone gets the ‘Twilight’ name from the gradient twilight colour option it gets. The Z2 Twilight is one of the best phones you can get for under $250.

It not only looks good, it is packed with features too. It is surprising to see companies put out such good smartphones for such low price.

Umidigi Z2 Twilight Display

The Umidigi Z2 Twilight is yet another Android phone with a notch, which is extremely similar to that on the iPhone X, LG G7 and the Xiaomi Mi 8. The phone is designed extremely well and is in line with most of the flagships of 2018.

The Z2 Twilight has a 19:9 Aspect Ratio 1080*2246 resolution display with a screen-to-body ratio of 90%. The phone has minimal bezels all around with small bezel at the bottom and a small notch at the top.

The colour option of the phone is something that definitely needs a mention. The gradient Twilight colour changes colour as you tilt the phone. Trust me, if you get this phone, you will not want to put on a case on it.

Umidigi Z2 Twilight Camera Features

It also features Quad-Camera, two on either side. Both the front and rear camera use the same 16MP+8MP dual camera setup which promises to take excellent photos and videos. The secondary camera, unlike other phones, is used for taking better lowlight photos. umidigi-z2-twilight-review-camera-features

What also helps is the wide f/2.0 aperture in front of a Sony sensor. Combined, you can expect a really good set of photo features.

Umidigi Z2 Twilight Performance

The Umidigi Z2 Twilight is powered by MediaTek P23 SoC which is clocked at @2.0GHz. There’s 6GB of RAM to meet all your multi-tasking needs.

Let me be honest here. The 6GB of RAM is plenty and something that even flagship phones of over $700 don’t offer. But the P23 SoC from MediaTek is just mediocre. It will play all the modern Triple-A titles available on the Play Store but where it lacks is in thermal management. Also, if you decide to play games for a longer period of time, you will quickly notice the throttling and drop in frames of any game you are playing.

I would have loved if Umidigi used Qualcomm mid-range SoC such as the 636 and paired it with 4GB of RAM.

The Z2 Twilight also gets 64GB of Internal storage which can be further expanded using Micro-SD card. I doubt if anyone will need it though.

Big Battery with Fast Charging

The Z2 Twilight is powered by 3850mAh battery which is plentiful. It should easily last a day if not more. However, even if you run out of juice, there’s very little to worry about. The phone can Fast Charge and reach 0% to 100% in less than 80 minutes!

And in case you were wondering, yes, the Umidigi Z2 Twilight has USB-C port and not the now absolute Micro-USB port. Sadly though, there’s no sign of 3.5mm headphone jack.

Umidigi Z2 Twilight Verdict

If you have the money, you should definitely get the Twilight. The price of the phone is $300 but you can get it for $250 right now on GearBest. I think it’s a great phone that is worth every penny.
