So, the UMIDIGI S2 seems to be a great smartphone to me. Besides the 18:9 aspect ratio of the display, we also have a few more reasons for you to buy this smartphone. Keep reading UMIDIGI S2: Best Bezel-less Phone Under $180 to find out more.

UMIDIGI S2: Design

umidigi-s2-best-bezelless-phone-under-180The first thing to discuss on UMIDIGI S2: Best Bezel-less Phone Under $180, is the design. The design of the UMIDIGI S2 is inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S8, at least the front part, and that’s loud and clear. An end-to-end bezel-less screen with slightly curved edges with no physical buttons is what you see on the device. If you place it alongside the Galaxy S8, you’d find it difficult to distinguish which is which except that the Galaxy S8 is slightly bigger. On the back, however, it seems that this phone learned from the Galaxy S8 to place the fingerprint sensor more conveniently.

The body is a unibody aluminum alloy. It feels quite good in your hands too, for a budget phone. It has got a USB-C port at the bottom, but there’s no 3.5 mm headphone jack in it, though. I’d like to have that on my phones, but well, it’s not there. The power button and the volume rockers are on the right while the speakers lie alongside the USB-C port. On the back, you’ll see a Dual Camera setup, and underneath that, you’ll find the conveniently placed fingerprint sensor. I really like that, actually. This is a big phone to use with a single hand, but you can at least get to the fingerprint sensor with one hand!

UMIDIGI S2: Display

umidigi-s2-best-bezelless-phone-under-180Next on UMIDIGI S2: Best Bezel-less Phone Under $180, let’s talk about its display. Now, the display is the primary thing that is supposed to get you excited about this phone. And why not? You can get the edge-to-edge infinity display for a lower price. You get a 5.99″ HD display (1440 x 720)p with 368 PPI. It has 18:9 Screen-to-Body aspect ratio, 0.5 short to the Galaxy S8. Corned with Gorilla Glass 4, the big screen is not so fragile either. The 2.5D curved glass makes its resemblance to the S8 even more uncanny.

But no matter what, you have to remember its a budget phone. You cannot compare UMIDIGI S2’s display to the S8’s. The 720p-HD panel doesn’t look as good as the Galaxy S8. If you want the Full-HD experience, you should get the UMIDIGI S2 Pro, which has a little more bumped up specs than this one. Watching movies and gaming on this large display is still a treat, though!

UMIDIGI S2: Camera

umidigi-s2-best-bezelless-phone-under-180So, yes, the camera. These days, most flagships have gone dual-lens for camera. And this budget device is doing just the same. You get a Dual-Camera setup, one being a 13 MP Sony’s IMX258 Sensor while the other being a 5 MP sensor. The combination might not sound so fantastic, but the pictures it takes definitely does. Also, I found that the phone doesn’t perform so well in low-light. The phones come out blurry and many a times, out of focus. Add to that, the somewhat slow performance and it’s not a very pleasurable camera experience. The cameras have Phase-Detection Auto Focus and can record 4K videos. At the front, it’s got another 5 MP selfie camera.

UMIDIGI S2: Platform and OS

For a budget phone, the UMIDIGI S2 packs quite the hardware. It is run by an Octa-Core 2.3 GHz Helio MediaTek P20 chipset, supported by 4 GB of RAM. That’s the level of power you get on most high-end devices! With this much of power, you can bet that it will deliver one hell of a performance. You can shoot your 4K video smoothly, without a hitch, and the chip is also 25% more power-efficient. You can throw all kinds of games at it, and it will run them. This is something that can compete with the Galaxy S8!

On the software part, the UMIDIGI S2 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. You can find it in two variants, one with the stock Android experience and the other with a UMI GUI OS. Now, this is a no-brainer. I know almost everyone prefers the stock Android, because the UMI GUI OS is basically TouchWiz; I find it sloppy. So, stock Android 7.1.1 on such a hardware makes a powerful phone.

UMIDIGI S2: Battery and Memory

umidigi-s2-best-bezelless-phone-under-180Next on UMIDIGI S2: Best Bezel-less Phone Under $180, is the battery. How about a phone that will last you 2 full days easily? The UMIDIGI S2 is just that. It’s got a humongous 5100 mAh battery. Also, with Quick Charge 2.0, you can charge your phone very fast! You can get upto a day’s charge in 30 minutes! So, this phone claims to be the first bezel-less phone that can last you upto 2 days on a single charge! However, that might be due to the fact that a 720 p display won’t drain your phone so much. But even so, for a phone to have such huge battery on such a slim body is quite something!

On the memory side, you get a 64 GB internal storage, with an expandable option of upto 256 GB with a micro-SD card. So, you don’t have to worry about all the 4K video storage, either.

UMIDIGI S2: Conclusion

To conclude UMIDIGI S2: Best Bezel-less Phone Under $180, do I think that UMIDIGI is the best bezel-less phone under $180? Well, definitely yes! Because there aren’t many bezel-less phones you can get at that price, except some which you haven’t heard of, but those, too, lack in one thing or the other. But not this one though! Yes, I know the 720-p HD  panel isn’t as impressive on the bezel-less display, but it’s good enough. And also, you get so much processing power and battery power, on a premium metal body with a fingerprint sensor and great cameras too! What else would you be looking for in a budget phone for $180?

I really like the UMIDIGI S2. And I would also recommend this phone if you’re looking for something budget yet have high demands. The first bezel-less display phone that can last you upto 2 days, huh? Its gotta be something, isn’t it? Well, it will only cost you about $180 to find out, if you’re interested.

So, this was UMIDIGI S2: Best Bezel-less Phone Under $180. What do you think of this phone? Do you think it’ll be worth getting it for $180? Or would you prefer something that’s well known in the market? Thank you for reading and stick with us for more such news and information.
