Motorola has come up with a proper flagship phone after a very long time. The Motorola Edge+ has come out to take on the big boys like the iPhone 11 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S20, and the recently launched ONePlus 8 Pro. Entering the flagship playfield after years of disappearance isn’t easy. So, the real question is – Is the Motorola Edge+ worth the hype? And more importantly, is the Motorola Edge+ worth your money? Let’s find out.
What does Motorola Edge+ give you for $1000?
When you look at the raw specs of the Motorola Edge+, you really cannot go wrong with the phone. The phone has all the hardware that you would expect from a 2020 flagship phone (except for a 120Hz refresh rate screen). Moto Edge+ features Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC has 12GB of RAM on-board. The primary camera has a 108MP sensor and features PDAF as well as OIS. The battery is also large at 5000.
Let’s quickly run-down through the specs of the Motorola Edge+ 2020:
- 6.7-inch FHD+ 90Hz OLED curved display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC
- 12 GB of RAM
- 256GB Internal Storage
- Quad-camera setup on the back (108MP wide+ 8MP 3x telephoto+ 12MP ultrawide+ TOF 3D sensor)
- 25MP f/2.0 selfie camera
- 5000mAh battery
- Dedicated stereo speakers
- 5G support
Sure, at $1,000, the Motorola Edge+ is an expensive phone. But the same can be said about most of the other flagship phones. Even the OnePlus flagship phone- OnePlus 8 Pro costs $900 to boot.
What’s great about Motorola Edge+?
There are just a few things that are not great about the Motorola Edge+. And this is the least we can expect from a flagship phone in 2020. Phone manufacturers are making really good phones of late and it’s mandatory to have the best of all features for a phone to sell well.
Motorola gets check-mark for most of the pillars of a great smartphone. Here is what makes the Motorola Edge+ a great phone:
- Excellent display with great color reproduction
- The Moto skin on top of Android 10 is unobstructive
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 means the phone is blazing fast
- 12GB of RAM on-board holds a lot of apps on memory
- Fast 15-watt wireless charging
- IP68 Water and Dust resistance
The edge-display on the phone is also one of a kind. It not only looks cool but is also highly functional. However, we highly recommend you get a phone case for the Motorola Edge+ as it can be very fragile.
What’s Not-so-great about the Motorola Edge+?
As much as I love the Motorola Edge+, there are a few things that stop the phone from being the ultimate flagship phone of 2020. As you may have noticed already, I am yet to praise the camera performance of the phone. Und=fortunately, it is the area where the phone lacks.
Don’t get me wrong. The camera on the Motorola Edge+ is great. But on a $1,000 phone, being great just isn’t enough. The phone has to have an excellent camera. There are no two ways about it. And here- the phones don’t impress everyone. The phone takes great photos outdoors. But in low-light, the phone struggles. Also, the phone has an issue of over-sharpening everything.
Apart from this, there is nothing to complain about the Motorola Edge+. However, for the price, there are better phones out there. Phones like the Galaxy S20 and the iPhone 11 Pro are just a tad better than this phone.
However, if you are to get the Motorola Edge+ for a good discount, the phone is certainly worth the money. If you can get this phone for around $800, the phone is certainly worth the money.
