Huawei is so hot right now! With the launch of its two new flagships: Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Huawei looks to be on the top of the smartphone game! There are considerable differences between the two, even in the design, so, quite a lot of comparisons can be made between the two. However, we’ll be talking about the Huawei Mate 10 Pro here, so, that can wait. Well, read on Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: Just Get It to find out all about the Mate 10 Pro.
Anyways, with these two devices, I’m not really sure which one is the flagship, or maybe both of them are. With the Mate 10, Huawei has really stepped up its game, and it seems that it can even go head-to-head with the likes of Google Pixel 2 and iPhone 8/iPhone X. With the spec-sheet and a whole lot of cool features, its already on the must-check-out device. And after some initial messing around with the Mate 10 Pro, I can tell you that it’s even a must-have device. Why?
So, this review is based on some messing around with the device, so, its more like an initial impressions review. Anyways, I can tell you that whatever you read on Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: Just Get It might sound awesome and it actually is! And for a price of $942 (European pricing), you can get a phone that’s actually worth it! Therefore, let’s see whether the Huawei Mate 10 Pro impresses you guys as much as it did me on Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: Just Get It!
Huawei Mate 10 Pro: Design
First up on Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: Just Get It, let’s talk the design. Because you know, the design is what appeals all of us first. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro has some redefined design against last year’s Mate 9. It has a glossy glass construction which comes in these colors: “Mocha Brown”, “Pink Gold”, “Midnight Blue” and “Titanium Gray”. However, the colors availability is dependent on the regions. The phone is 7.9 mm thick and 74.5 mm wide, which is smaller than its Mate 10 counterpart.
The Mate 10 Pro too goes with Full View bezel-less design. It has a fingerprint sensor at the back, below the dual-camera setup. The speaker grill is at the bottom, beside the USB-C. It loses the headphone jack while the Mate 10 keeps it, but in exchange, its IP67 Water and Dust Resistant. The power button and volume rockers are on the right and the power button is slightly grilled so that you don’t mistake it for the volume buttons in your pocket. The design of this phone is pretty sweet, and it just looks awesome!
Huawei Mate 10 Pro: Display
Since the Mate series finally decided to go with the Full View bezel-less displays, the Mate 10 Pro sports a 6″ Full-HD (2160 x 1080) OLED display with 18:9 screen-to-body-aspect ratio. With a 402 PPI pixel density, the display is just great! Sure, with the Mate 10 having a 4K display, it would be great if the Mate 10 Pro had the same, the colors and brightness are quite good on this one too. For a phone with bezel-less display, it would have been better for it has more than just Full-HD. When I compare the Mate 10 with the Mate 10 Pro, you just can’t ignore the superior display of the Mate 10. Anyways, what we have on the Mate 10 Pro is also pretty good.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro: Platform
Next up on Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: Just Get It, we discuss the processors on this thing. Well, I usually like to discuss Camera first, as this part includes the geeky techy stuff, but the Mate 10 Pro has something that helps you even while taking pictures. So, getting on with it, the Mate 10 Pro is powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC, which is honestly, the thing that steals the spotlight on this phone. This is the first chip that was built with AI specifically in mind. The Kirin 970 specifically includes NPU ( Neural Processing Unit) that handles tasks like deep learning and such.

Huawei claims that the NPU models the user behavior for efficient resource allocation over time and can significantly reduce the phone’s performance degradation over time, which is an actual problem with Android devices. The company also claims that it can outperform iPhone 8’s and X’s biochips as well, but that remains to be seen. However, one thing you can clearly see the application of the NPU is in the cameras.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro: Camera
Now, let us discuss cameras next on Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: Just Get It. The Mate 10 Pro features a dual camera setup with Leica Optics lenses. The primary lens is a 12 MP sensor and the other one is a 20 MP monochrome sensor, both with f/1.6 aperture. Now, the monochrome sensor and the large aperture means great images in low-light settings. In addition, the camera setup features OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), Laser Autofocus, 2X double zoom and a feature that lets you take pictures of moving objects smoothly.

The cameras also make use of the Mate 10 Pro’s AI. What the AI does, with the camera is that while taking pictures, it’ll detect what scenarios are the pictures of, and match it with optimized settings for the scenario. For example, if you’re taking pictures of food items, it’ll detect “Food” scenario, and optimize the camera settings for it. It can easily detect people, plants, animals, text objects, etc. easily. I spent considerable time taking pictures of random objects just to test this! So, that’s one more amazing thing about the Mate 10 Pro!
Huawei Mate 10 Pro: Battery, Memory, and OS
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro carries a big 4000 mAh battery! Now, that’s more than what other flagships offer these days. The juice lasts easily for a day and a half with regular usage. There is no Quick Charge feature on this, but Huawei has its own fast charge feature on this, which can charge your phone from 0 to 58 % in 30 minutes. So, that’s good enough too, I guess.
The Mate 10 Pro feature 4 GB RAM with 64 GB storage. Now, combined with the Kirin 970, 4 GB RAM can work wonders too. And 64 GB storage is ample enough, too, even as there is no expandable option for the phone. Also, there is a 6 GB RAM / 128 GB storage option available as well to choose from.
The Mate 10 Pro is running on Android 8.0 Oreo with its custom skin EMUI 8.0 on top. This is the only phone besides Google Pixel to run the Android Oreo! Huawei skipped EMUI 6 and 7 to catch up with Android 8.0 too, but this EMUI is a good finish on top, actually.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro: Extras
Now, on Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: Just Get It, let’s discuss some extra cool features that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro offers. The one thing I cannot go without mentioning is this cool feature similar to Samsung Dex. You can turn your Huawei Mate 10 Pro into a desktop, but you don’t need the expensive Dex device. All you have to do is connect your phone to a monitor and you’re good to go! You can either just use the bigger screen to watch and play but there’s also a desktop mode, where you can actually get the desktop computer experience! And what’s more? During that time, your phone can act as a touch-pad! So, connect a Bluetooth Keyboard, and you have a PC just like that!
Besides that, there are also other cool features, like, when you get important notifications, you can immediately open that with what you were doing in split-screen mode. I have yet to play with it in more depth to figure out others, but they’re cool, aren’t they?
Huawei Mate 10 Pro: Conclusion
Whatever you read on Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: Just Get It, sounds awesome right? Well, it actually is too. And besides the display that could’ve been more than a Full-HD panel for a bezel-less screen, there’s not much that’ll put you off here. The AI applications besides the camera will have to be seen with further usage, but for now, I’ll say “Just get the phone!” You know you want this phone! So, whenever it comes out, just get it, okay? It’s too good to pass out, and with the Mate 10 series, Huawei seems to have gone all out. And if you want such great phones in the future, you have to start now, right? So, why not get this super cool phone?
